Homeless Shelter Outreach
|

|
After our successful Easter Service, Cookie Ministry and CityBranch have been in conversation with Central Iowa Shelter and Services (CISS) on how we could continue that relationship. After much prayer and conversation, we have decided that beginning the weekend of November 8 we will begin providing transportation from CISS to CityBranch for shelter residents and homeless campers. The campers will be picked up at CISS around 7:45 AM on Sunday morning. We are prayerfully considering programming opportunities for the 8:30-9:30 hour and then worship will begin at 10. We will also provide return transportation and a sack lunch after the service.
We are looking for all kinds of volunteers with all kinds of talents. Commitments for most of these positions will be a minimum of once a month. Here are some of the skills we are looking for:
- Transportation - Drive a van or ride a city bus with the shelter residents or campers. Especially seeking drivers with a Commercial Drivers License.
- Program Host - Prepare room including seating and video equipment for programming. Meet and greet members. Clean up area following the program.
- Program Administrator - Supervise Program Hosts. Pick up donuts and make coffee. Arrange for the purchase and distribution of materials. The committment for this position would be for the duration of the study (6-8 weeks).
- Program Facilitator - Bringing the group together, leading an opening prayer, introducing the lesson and facilitating discussion. No prior Biblical or teaching experiene required. Training will be provided. (This will be similar to Alpha facilitators). The commitment for this position would be for the duration of the study (could be 6-8 weeks).
- Lunch Delivery - Pick up lunches at Hope Main Campus and deliver them to CityBranch (Hubbell Elementary) by 11 AM.
If you are interested in any of these positions, please email Melanie at Cookieministry@hopewdm.org.
