Lutheran Church of Hope organized as a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in November 1994. Since that time, Hope has become one of the fastest growing Lutheran churches in the nation, offering a wide variety of ministries for people who are searching for a new or deeper relationship with God. God has blessed Hope with a clear vision for the future, including the development of new ministries/congregations around the world and in the area.
After many months of prayer, interest meetings, and the formation of leadership teams in the fall of 2007, Lutheran Church of Hope CityBranch began worship on June 15, 2008 at Hubbell Elementary School, 800 42nd Street, Des Moines.
Hope satellites are distinctly and purposefully started and supported to reach those with no church home. CityBranch is part of Hope’s “one church with multiple locations,” meaning it carries out the mission, vision and values of Lutheran Church of Hope – to be a Spirited, Growing, Christ-centered Community Filled with Hope.
CityBranch is continuing to grow and reach out to a diversity of people, offering a blend of worship styles and a myriad of new ways to serve the community. This satellite is service and relationship oriented, as we continue to discover particular areas where God is calling us to serve.
A permanent location has not yet been determined. The general target area proposed following prayer and during interest meetings is: 42nd Street to MLK Parkway (West to East) and Hickman to Grand Avenue (North to South). More permanent locations for ministry 7 days a week are continuing to be explored.
